GROUND IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED GROUND IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED

The exercise sessions will take place at Churchill playing fields where teams will have to work round the pitch improvement works being carried out by Oldham Council.
It’s intended to resolve long-standing issues with holes in particular areas of the pitch, as well as reinstating a large area which was dug up for gas works and caused big problems for our junior fixtures last season.

The club has decided not to use the main pitch to enable an extended period of growth so the roots of our grass can grow deeper, something which has been needed for years to create a more resilient surface.

Club Secretary, Pete Townsend, said: “It’s a once in a long time opportunity to create a more robust pitch and really get the roots to anchor into the ground.”

By the end of this frustrating time, it’s hoped a better established grass and improved drainage means we can avoid the opening weeks of next season being blighted by cancellations as they have been in recent years.
