THE popular Alderman’s Ascent hosted by Saddleworth Rangers has been chosen to be part of the English Fellrunning Championships.

The annual race, which started five years ago, sees runners of all ages tackle the tough Saddleworth hills, with funds raised benefiting the rugby club’s youth sides.

Now the event will be a counter race for the English Fellrunning Championships and will next take place on the earlier date of Saturday, May 16.

About 600 runners from across the country are expected to descend on Saddleworth for the 8.5k race.

Organiser Darren Graham said: “It’s exiting news as we have worked hard to get Alderman's established as a great race and next year’s event will show it off to many of the country’s top runners and clubs.”

The finer details are yet to be confirmed and entry will open on Monday, March 2, 2020.

The women’s race is expected to start off the action at 11am before the men start at 1pm. Entry price is £11.20m including a memento.
