This short hill race will comply with the FELL RUNNERS ASSOCIATION rules and safety requirements and has applied for FRA insurance cover. Further details can be found on the FRA website: www.fellrunner.org.uk
Competitors should make themselves aware of the FRA safety requirements in so far as they apply to runners. These can be found on the ‘FRA DOCUMENTATION’ page of the FRA website.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: This is a Short category A (AS) fell race, minimum age 16 years. Entry is £5 pre entry or on the night.
There will be Junior category prizes on the night as well as the usual Senior and Vet category prizes back at Saddleworth Ranges' Clubhouse after the races.
The race route is mostly off road and covers narrow paths and uneven terrain, with steep, grassy climbs and descents. Whilst we do not require competitors to have previous experience of fell racing, we do require that they have some experience of running on this type of terrain.
The course will be partially marked with flags and will be marshalled at key points. However competitors should have the necessary navigational skills to find their way around the course in the prevailing conditions, in expectation of no support. All competitors have primary responsibility for their own safety.
Competitors should arrive at registration fully prepared to carry the following equipment:
a) Waterproof whole body cover
b) Map and compass suitable for navigating the course
Final kit requirement will be on display at registration HQ on race night. Check you have the correct kit before registering.
Competitors should be able to recognise the signs of hypothermia, hypoglycaemia and heat exhaustion in themselves and others. If you see someone in trouble you MUST stop and help even if it costs you the race.
Competitors either failing to start after registering or retiring at any point during the race MUST notify the officials at registration HQ or Start/Finish, and the nearest marshal if appropriate, before leaving the area.
Parking: Limited parking at the Club House and at the top of Shaw Hall Bank Rd. Parking also available on Chapel Rd and Wellington Rd. Please car share as much as possible and show consideration to local residents when parking. Binn Green is a small car park but there is plenty of road parking along the A635 but please be aware that this is a fast road so please keep a close eye on your child as you will have to cross the road to get to the start of the races.
The Senior race route starts from Churchill Playing Fields (GR 996052) at the end of Wellington Rd and does a clockwise lap of the playing fields before heading off towards the ‘Pots and Pans’ monument. From there, the route heads over to Shaw Rocks and then across to the summit of Aldermans Hill. From here, a steep, technical descent down to the A636 Rd is then followed by a steep climb back up to the top of Aldermans Hill before the race leads back down to the playing fields once again.
A note about the course: Please note that we will be doing a number check at some point along the course and Oldham Mountain Rescue will also be on hand if required.

Refreshments will be at Clubhouse after the races, with soup and bread being provided. The bar will also be open for that essential rehydration. Also, sweets and cakes will be on sale.
